1.How do you think your year went in grade 6?

This year in grade 6 I feel like I had a great year with this class and my teachers. I was very focused most of the time. The only times I was not that focused was after recess. Something I can work on is studying for my spelling tests more often. I did really good in math.

2. What was something that was very memorable

Something in grade 6 that was very memorable was doing the space unit in science. The reason for that is I learned a lot and had lots of fun. It was also very memorable because I had to overcome lots of challenges like writing and a lot more. Working with a partner was really a good experience.

3.Looking back on your reading comprehension throughout the year, what was one thing you were really proud of (think back to our literature circles or novels that we read together)

The novel I most enjoyed this year was Touching Spirit Bear AND My Name Is Seepeetza. I liked TSB because it was an action and adventure book. My Name Is Seepeetza was a good book because it spreads awareness about how bad residential schools were. Something I was very proud of in language arts was me getting exceeding marks. Something I would like to improve on is maybe paying more attention when the teacher is giving instructions. One highlight during literature circles was when all of the people gave me complements.

4.What was one thing you struggled with in terms of reading and that you think you should continue working on?

Something that I struggled with in reading is long and confusing words
. I feel I should continue with trying to learn them because in the future I may need it so that's why I should continue it. Another way I can continue is to sound them out.

5.What writing piece were you most proud of (personal, story or persuasive). What about it made you proud?

I am very proud of my speech fest persuasive speech. The reason I am proud of it is because it is my passion and I loved writing  it. Another reason I am proud is because I spent a long time on it and I love it.

6.What was one thing that you still need to work on throughout all of your writing? How do you know you need to work on this?

I think a thing I need to work on is the neatness of my writing. I know I need to work on this because sometimes I rush and it is not neat. I want to work on it more also because sometimes I can't even read it!

7.We have talked a lot about communication skills (how you communicate with your peers and your teachers in  small or large groups) What is one thing that you do well in terms of communication and one thing that you think you should keep working on.

I think in communication I always listen to the teacher and my peers. Something I think I can improve on is getting ideas from everyone else and using it in our project or presentation.

8.Do you think you do a good job of asking for help when when you need it? How do you know you are good at asking for help or not?

I believe I am good at asking for help because I ask when I need it. Personally I know that I am good at asking for help because whenever I am stuck I ask. First I ask my peers in the class and if they don't understand I ask the teacher.\

9.In math, we learned a lot of things this year. Talk about a time when you struggled with something in math. What was it and how did you get better at it?

In math I believe I struggled with long division. I was doing the test when all of a sudden I couldn't do it. When I got home I practice and practice for days until I got better. I got my family to write me questions so I can get better and now, I know it.

10.What was one thing you were really proud of in math this year-something you think you did really well or a challenge you overcame?

In math I was really proud of my adding and subtracting fractions. At the start of the unit I wasn't really good but after I studied I got better at it.

11.We spent a lot of time learning about what Social Emotional Learning is. How do you self-regulate?How do you promote social emotional learning around you? (think of your morning Zones Of Regulation)

Self regulation is a great way to calm down. To self-regulate you can sit quietly in a room for 30 seconds or more and close your eyes open them slowly and think about relaxing. To promote Social Emotional Learning we can make posters, make blog posts and websites.

12.How did you like project based learning? What were your strengths? What could you work on in the future?

I really like project based learning because I can do whatever I wanted. For genius hour we could choose our topic and that's good. When we did current events we chose a topic we thought was a issue, overall project based learning is a good way to do it.

13.You experienced different types of innovative learning within the classroom such as classroom blogs, coding, choice, passion projects etc. How did this best support your learning? What did you like about it?

The different types of learning really helped me because I could explore new ways to learn. I liked how we could express ourselves like in blogs we wrote about what we wanted.

14.Everyday you never sat in the same spot, you had a different seat to start your morning. How did this benefit your learning? What did you like about it?

Sitting in different seats was good for me because it was always a surprise. I really liked how we moved because at the start of the year I made friends sitting in different seats everyday

15. My goals for over the summer are...

My goals for the summer are to read for 30 minutes every night. Another one is to get into flight school. The last goal is to do weekly writes to keep track of my summer.

My goals for grade 7 numeracy are...

My goals are to do good in in algebra and problem solving. To learn algebra I am going to buy math books to learn. For problem solving I will get my parents and my older sister to help.

My goals for grade 7 literacy are..

My goals for grade 7 literacy are to improve on reading. To do that every night I will read for 30 minutes before I sleep.

My overall goals for grade 7 are...

My goals are to get lots of exceeding mark. I want to also read really hard books. In math I hope to understand algebra and get good marks.

16.What did you learn about in aboriginal education this year?
This year I learned a lot in aboriginal education. One thing I loved learning about were residential schools. We read a book about a girl who went to a residential school, her name was Seepeetza. Residential schools are basically schools that the Europeans made for aboriginal children. They had to change themselves into people they were not, and only saw their families on holidays. All of them stayed until high school, then they could leave. Another thing we learned about is who's land we are on. In B.C. we are on the land of the Coast Salish people.
