What happened in B.C.?
When the Europeans came to Canada, they built residential schools for aboriginal children to go to so they can change them into people they are not. That is called an assimilation The reason for that is the Europeans wanted power so that they think they are better than them.

About aboriginal cultures?
Aboriginal cultures really worship animals. The only time they eat animals is when they are starving to death. They don't hunt for fun, they hunted for survival. Anther thing they worship is spirits. They have rituals for the dead spirits and a lot more. Some hobbies that they have are making totem poles. They carve animals to worship the animals dead spirits

What were residential schools?
Residential schools were buildings that the Europeans were built to change the aboriginal's culture and language. In the residential schools they had to live there for a year until holidays. They couldn't speak their own language and they lived in dorms. They could only eat or drink when the teachers told them to. Lots of kids die because of starvation or suicide. The reason kids committed suicide is they were depressed. they had to sit against their will in a classroom so they just killed themselves.

What happened to families?
Families sometimes never saw each other again because of depression. They were torn apart. A lot of families were sad because they were forced to give their kids to the nuns and priests that worked at the schools. Because of the long months leaving their families and only coming back on breaks they couldn't talk to their parents sometimes.

whose land are we on?
We are on the land of the Coast Salish people. They live in B.C.They have the rights to fish and hunt in B.C. We must pay our respect to them because it is not our land it is theirs. When the Europeans came they colonized and "claimed" the land to be theirs.Colonizing is when people come on someone else's land and claims it to be theirs. Now the land belongs to the Supreme Court of Canada and the Coast Salish people have rights to do things in certain spots on the land.
